Santa letters can sometimes be the beginning of a lot of excitement in the homes where there are kids. The kids write their letters to Santa, often right after Halloween, and then wait anxiously for Santa to respond. After all, every kid knows that until those letters from Santa arrive there’s really no way to know if they are on Santa’s Nice List or not.
This article is about a fun activity for you and your kids. It just might help to keep your kids occupied for at least one evening during the holiday season and it might come in handy from then on. The Christmas season brings out excitement in little ones. It’s to be expected. They are always asking how many more days until the next holiday event and of course, how many more days until Santa Claus comes. We really can’t do a lot to change that so we have to find ways to work with it. Here’s my solution.
Why not make your own special countdown calendar. Make it meaningful to your family. For instance, if you traditionally decorate your tree on Thanksgiving Day, then you could start your calendar with that. And on that day, along with a turkey or Pilgrim, maybe you would also add a Christmas tree.
As you and your kids add the icons and emblems to the calendar you can get creative. In fact, the more creative you get the better. Use stickers and whatever you can think of. Small buttons and craft supplies work well too.
Of course you will want to have glitter and markers on hand. Consider things like special visits. If ‘grandma’ will be coming on a specific date maybe you can add her photo to that date. If you get snow on a particular day you could add a snowflake. You will want to mark the day that you write your letters to Santa as well as the day that the letters from Santa arrive.
You get the idea. Instead of buying a pre-made countdown calendar, make your own. It will have special meaning to you and you will have fun making it.
Happy Holidays!
